- Course overview: The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) sponsors the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®), an evidence-based, interprofessional, and multidisciplinary training program that equips the entire maternity care team with skills to manage obstetric emergencies effectively. The ALSO Instructor Course is a half-day course that prepares current ALSO Providers with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively teach ALSO courses. Participants attending an ALSO Course learn practical, standardized team-based approaches to managing emergency situations, such as postpartum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, breech delivery, cord prolapse, and maternal resuscitation. Become an ALSO Instructor, and learn about adult learning theory and faculty development, as well as how to offer effective feedback, teach in small group workstations, and evaluate participants.

- CME Credit: The AAFP has reviewed ALSO Instructor Course and deemed it acceptable for up to 3.25 live AAFP Prescribed credits. Term of Approval is from 9/15/2022 to 9/15/2022. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
- Course pre-requisite: Instructor registrants must have a current ALSO Provider card.
Current ALSO Provider status as of September 15, 2022, is REQUIRED. Please click the following link to view ALSO Provider Courses offered.

- Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss educational tools that can be used when giving feedback to ALSO course participants.
- Describe how to assist participants in dealing with questions and conflicts that can occur during the workstations.
- Demonstrate teaching capabilities by providing hands-on role-play utilizing maternal-fetal manikins along with timely feedback in order to adapt teaching methods to various situations.
- Demonstrate the ability to facilitate group discussion, as well as consider ways to implement faculty and learner feedback to enhance the educational experience.
- Who should take this course? Current ALSO Providers who wish to gain specific teaching skills, including physicians, residents, RNs, paramedics, midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Every day in hospitals, health systems, and clinics, innovation is driving the primary care sector to new heights. A highlight of the FMEC Annual Meeting, the Innovator’s Network showcases new tools and services to improve care and reduce cost. The agenda is evolving and will be announced soon, but topics featured may include alternative treatment modalities, social determinants of health such as housing and language access, value-based care, risk stratification, and more. Meeting the New ACGME Requirements: Learning Collaboratives and More (8 am to 12 pm)

- Preconference overview:
This session will help your program be ready for 2023! The agenda will include an overview of the new ACGME requirements and what’s changing for your program. Information on how to structure and run a learning collaborative will be provided, and attendees will discuss their ideas and needs for cross-institution collaboration in small groups. Additional presentations during this preconference will address running patient/family/community advisory councils, building inclusive environments and supporting learners from diverse backgrounds, and master adaptive learning.

Social Determinants of Health: The New Vital Sign (8 am to 12 pm)

- Preconference overview:
This highly-interactive session will provide an overview of social determinants of health and what we know about their impact on health care; briefly discuss how policy both prevents people from getting the social, educational, and other supports they need to be healthy but also can be the solution and how physicians can become active; and use small group sessions to strategize on how family medicine and medical training can move the needle on issues such as education, the social and built environments, digital access, economic stability, and more.
